That difference matters more than most people realize.
A strong local website is built around customer intent. When you know what people are searching for, you can build pages that match those needs instead of hoping one general page will do the job.
What This Looked Like for One RV Park
One local business we worked with was an RV park in southern Utah. They had already launched a website, but after several months, the site was not bringing in results. Once we reviewed it, the issue was clear. The site structure was too thin and did not reflect how real customers search.
The website had basic rate information, but it did not cover the different types of stays people were looking for.
Keyword research showed two clear groups of customers. One group wanted a short getaway. The other group wanted a longer stay. Once that became clear, the site needed a structure that matched those search patterns.
How Better Website Structure Improved Results
To fix the problem, we built a main rates page that covered short-term, weekly, and monthly options. From that page, we linked to two more focused pages: one for short-term stays and one for long-term stays.
Each page answered the questions that matched that type of customer. We also added FAQ sections and clear calls to action so visitors could book or call right away. Those pages linked back to the main page, which helped build a clear topic cluster around rates and stay options.
That same approach was then used for amenities. We built content around the features people cared about most, including pet-friendly options, a swimming pool, pickleball courts, and nearby parks.
This was not a complicated rebuild. It was a smarter structure based on actual search data.
Why Topic Clusters Matter in AI Search
Search has changed. AI-powered tools do not just look at one page. They look for context across your site.
That means your website needs to help search tools understand what you offer, who you help, and which questions you answer. A main page supported by focused subpages gives that context much more clearly than a single catch-all page.
When pages are connected well and built around real questions, your website becomes easier to understand and easier to trust.
The Results From These Changes
The changes made a major impact.
The RV park went from about 222 visits per month to more than 13,000 visits per month. That was a 5,882% increase in traffic. Their keyword rankings also grew from 137 to 2,124, which was a 1,450% increase. Even more important, the business went from filling only a few RV spots each month to operating at more than 93% capacity.
Those results did not come from chasing hacks. They came from better keyword research, better site structure, and content that matched what customers were looking for.
Your Google Business Profile Still Matters
A strong website is only part of local SEO.
Your Google Business Profile also needs to be complete and accurate. It should clearly show what your business does, where you are located, and how customers can contact you. Your website should support the same message.
When your website and your Google Business Profile say the same thing, that consistency helps search engines trust the business more.
Reviews Can Move the Needle Faster Than You Think
Reviews are another key part of local SEO.
For this RV park, we talked through their customer checkout process and looked for a simple way to ask for more reviews. They already had a fridge with soft drinks in the office, so the suggestion was simple: offer guests a free soft drink when they check out and ask them to leave a review.
That small change worked.
In just three months, they went from 18 reviews to more than 200 reviews, and most of those reviews were four or five stars.
Good reviews help in two ways. First, they build trust with future customers. Second, they send a strong signal that people like the business, which can support local visibility.
Local Citations Help Build Trust
Local citations are mentions of your business across the web. These usually include your business name, address, phone number, and a short description.
Why do they matter?
Because consistency matters. When search engines and AI tools see the same business details in many trusted places, it becomes easier for them to confirm that your business is real and reliable.
Backlinks Still Play an Important Role
Backlinks are links from other websites that point back to your site.
They still matter because they act like trust signals. When reputable websites link to your business, that helps support your authority online. For local businesses, backlinks can strengthen visibility for important service and location-based search terms.
