Top 10 Content Writing Websites
The demand for high-quality website content is the highest it’s ever been, with 91% of B2B marketers and 86% of B2C marketers citing it as a key element of their overall online marketing strategies.
The thing is that, although businesses recognize the need for fresh content, 65% of professionals said they struggle to produce engaging content in-house. Of those who attempt to do so, just 9% rate their strategies as “excellent,” while the majority give themselves an “average” score.
What this tells us is that, as the need for quality content rises, so too does the need for quality content writing sites.
Where Should You Look for The Best Content Writing Websites?
There are dozens of places where you can find professional writers who can produce the type of content your business needs to succeed. In fact, a quick Google search of “where to look for content writers” delivers lists of between eight and 51 content writing websites with services geared strictly toward helping businesses find reliable freelance writers or article writing services. Among them you will find bidding sites, such as Upwork; job boards, such as ProBlogger; marketplaces, such as Fiverr; on-demand sites such as Content Cloud; and, of course, SEO content writing companies, such as BKA Content.
Each option offers its fair share of pros and cons. They also vary in terms of everything from the type of content writing services they offer to the level of control you have over projects to the writing standards required. Because there are so many content writing websites from which to choose, and because they differ so greatly, a “quick Google search” may create more confusion than it alleviates. That’s where we come in.
The 10 Best Content Writing Sites
Having been in the SEO content writing industry for over 15 years, we are familiar with most of our competitors, both large and small. We’ve also done our research on what each has to offer, their business models, and in many cases, how their customers feel about them.
Based on that information, we’ve put together this list of the 11 most popular content writing websites (including us) for your convenience. All listed rating scores are based on a scale from 1-5, using reputable review sites like Glassdoor or Indeed as the basis. Without further ado, here are the top content writing companies available today.
1. BKA Content
Average Rating: 4.9/5
Not to toot our own horn or anything, but BKA Content is consistently rated as the top SEO content writing company on Glassdoor, along with also having the most reviews of any of the others on this list. We have a long-standing reputation for delivering flawless SEO content to brands across multiple industries.
We also like to think that, with various ordering options, we’re easy to work with. We can create all sorts of SEO content, including blogs, web pages, category/product descriptions, press releases, articles, ebooks and more. Order content writing at scale through our managed writing services page, tor give our strategic SEO blog writing services a try.
Regardless of which SEO content services you try, trust that you will receive nothing short of superior quality work and outstanding customer service. In fact, we were one of the pioneers of utilizing account management for bulk content writing services (and remain at the top of our class!). If you notice anything you would like to change, we’re happy to accommodate. In addition to these benefits, clients also enjoy the following:
- Custom style guides

On average, 80-90% of the blogs we write (as opposed to the industry standard of 10-20%) using this strategy rank for keywords and ultimately get traffic.
2. Verblio
Average Rating: 4.8/5
Verblio works with over 3,000 US-based content writers, each of whom has expertise in a wide variety of industries. As a result, Verblio is able to create informed content for clients in a diverse range of niches. Customers can order all types of content for their content marketing strategies, including blogs, webpages, articles, product descriptions, video content and eBooks. Pro Services (with account management attached) are available, but be ready to spend a pretty penny. These services come with strategizing options, which include SEO assistance and topic creation.
Similar to our website content writing services, Verblio allows writers to choose the topics that interest them. You simply submit your order along with the pertinent details and interested writers can pick it up if they feel it matches their expertise. Unlike the way our services work, however, several writers can submit drafts for your chosen topic. This means you’re likely at the mercy of who may pick up your project. The good news is you only pay for the one you ultimately choose.
Verblio works on a subscription basis. You can elect to purchase just one article per month, along with add-on services, such as photos, optimization and proofreading. Whether you subscribe on a monthly or annual basis, you have the flexibility to change your content writing plan at any time.
3. Content Development Pros
Average Rating: 4.1/5
Content Development Pros is another source for content writing needs, albeit a smaller one. The agency — which also specializes in web design and SEO — states on their site that they can write blog posts, eBooks, landing pages, ad copy, whitepapers, Amazon product descriptions and more.
Premium blog services start at $12.95 per page, though you can request higher quality work by paying more. You can order content on a standalone basis or enroll in the company’s managed services option. You do all your ordering through the agency’s website.
As with many popular content writing websites, Content Development Pros hires ghostwriters. What this means for you is that once you approve and pay for the content, ownership transfers to you.
4. Content Cucumber
Average Rating: 3.9/5
Content Cucumber is different from the other content writing sites on this list in that you work with one dedicated writer for a flat monthly fee. There’s no paying per word or per project with this agency, which has its benefits and drawbacks.
On the plus side, Content Cucumber’s model means you essentially hire your own writer for a fraction of what it would typically cost for an in-house writer. They tout that you can order as much or as little content as you want (but not really) within a single month, along with an unlimited number of revisions and add-ons. The writer assigned to your account writes for you daily.
To prevent customers from overworking their writers, Content Cucumber establishes a one- to two-day turnaround time for each 400-word piece. The monthly cost is $490, which is not bad given you essentially receive a staff writer. The downside, is this writer is capped at the size per piece and how many pieces per day. If scaling content creation is your goal, this option could have its challenges.
Though Content Cucumber’s model is innovative for this industry, it may not make much sense for businesses looking for content creation solutions at scale.
5. ContentWriters
Average Rating: 4.3/5
ContentWriters offers a la carte writing services for individual clients looking for standalone pieces and managed services for agencies, enterprises and publishers. Standalone pieces start at $99 and come with editing, proofreading, plagiarism detection and two rounds of revisions. When using the a la carte model, you can order content on-demand and without making any commitments.
The cost of managed services through this content writing website varies from client to client and depends on your unique needs and budget. All deliverables, regardless of the model you choose, claim to come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
6. WriterAccess
Average Rating: 4.2/5
Founded in 2010, WriterAccess claims to have served over 40,000 clients in its tenure. WriterAccess boasts a large database of writers, each of whom is distinguished by a star rating. The rating system is a simple 2- to 5-star system. Clients can select among the writers, paying more for content produced by those of higher standing.
To order content through WriterAccess, you can do one of two things. The first is to host a casting call. Post a description of the job, select the skills and expertise you would like candidates to possess, and let the writers come to you. Award the job, manage the workflow and publish the content you receive. With this option, you deposit money upfront.
The second option is to place an order directly with a writer. You can search for writers based on star rating, content types and topic experience. Each writer’s profile contains information designed to help guide the hiring process, such as the date they joined WriterAccess, how many orders they’ve completed, reviews and endorsements, and samples of previous work. If you like a writer, you can place an order with him or her via an order form. With this option, you deposit money only once you place your order with a writer.
The cost of content you purchase through WriterAccess boils down to two main factors: word count and writer experience. The price per word ranges from $0.02 to $2, depending on topic complexity and the skill of the writer you hire. If you go the casting call route, you name the price of your project and wait for writers to come to you.
WriterAccess does offer a managed services model. However, access to these services requires a higher deposit. And while you will get help with selecting writers, creating a strategy and setting up orders, you don’t get access to proofreaders or editors through this content writing website.
7. HOTH Blogger
Average Rating: 4.0/5
The HOTH — which stands for “Hit ‘em Over the Head” — is an “SEO agency.” As such, content writing is just a small part of what it does.
Among the two writing services that HOTH offers, HOTH Blogger Pro seems to be the winner. Unlike with HOTH Blogger, the pro version utilizes top-notch writers who have extensive niche experience. The difference in quality between the two services is notable, evident both in the reviews of the two services and their prices. HOTH Blogger starts at just $40 per month, whereas HOTH Blogger Pro starts at double that, at $80 per month. The most basic package comes with a single 500-word blog post.
Once you sign up for either service, you let the HOTH know what topics you want to address. The team then gets to work coming up with ideas, which it pitches to you for your approval. Once you approve, the HOTH finds writers best suited to fulfill your topic requests. The drafts will show up in your Content Approval Portal, where you can review them. You can request as many revisions or writing attempts as necessary until you receive a satisfactory product. Or, you can ask the HOTH to automatically approve and publish posts on your behalf.
Overall, HOTH’s blogging services (at least, its Pro services) seem to be of the same quality as its SEO services. The only pitfall is that to receive the type of well-researched, authoritative and engaging content that converts, you have to pay double the price.
8. SEO Butler
Average Rating: N/A
To order content from SEO Butler, select what type of content you want — anything from general articles for $0.05 per word to Super Optimized Content for $.135 per word, with reviews, category descriptions and guides sprinkled in. Next, select the word count and preferred writing style. Finally, use the rest of the form to provide the writer with the details he or she may need to produce a custom and converting piece, such as the desired keywords, reference links, suggested title, CTA and any other information you think is relevant.
SEO Butler offers discounts on orders over 5,000 words, as well as bulk pricing on orders of 10,000 words or more. The turnaround time for most orders is six days, but can vary. Note that due to the low threshold for bulk discounts, they are likely not a very large content writing operation.
There are several features customers like about SEO Butler, beginning with the fact that writers are native English speakers (which, TBH, should be the standard for EVERY content writing service in the US), well-vetted and routinely deliver superior content. The service also has a dedicated customer support team in the UK and a team of editors, which audits every piece of content before they deliver it to the customer. The company offers a generous money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your content.
There are a few pitfalls of working with SEO Butler, though minor. For instance, SEO Butler does not offer copywriting services (ad copy, meta descriptions, social media posts, etc.), the actual turnaround time is slightly long compared to the industry standard, and you cannot request the same writer from project to project. Ordering through this content writing website can also be fairly expensive compared to other content providers.
9. Express Writers
Average Rating: 3.5/5
The share of customers who have had 5-star experiences and 1-star experiences with Express Writers is about even, at 40% each. Another 20% give the firm a 4-star rating. Express Writers is a content writing agency that produces everything from ad copy to blog posts to infographics for anywhere between $0.09 per word to $0.50 per word. You can order standalone articles or sign up for a subscription. Subscriptions start at $220 per month, though requesting even the most basic level of research adds an additional $160 to the cost.
10. Scripted
Average Rating: 3.2/5
Scripted boasts a talent pool of over 6,000 writers who have what it takes to produce various types of content, including webpages, blog posts, press releases, video scripts and newsletters. Scripted works on a subscription basis, with the basic package starting at $199 per month. The basic package comes with two to four pieces of content, optimization, editorial review, grammar and plagiarism checking, two rounds of revisions and a quality guarantee. The more expensive packages come with additional services such as keyword research and analysis, content strategy, performance reporting and managed services.
Honorable Mention: Crowd Content
Average Rating: 2.7/5
Crowd Content boasts a database of over 6,000 writers from the US, UK, Australia and Canada. Its self-serve model makes ordering content easy. Simply log in, enter your order details, set the parameters, and wait for a qualified writer to write and submit the finished product. Because writers are categorized on a 1- to 5-star basis, you have some control over who writes your content.
However, the lack of regulation on the site means it’s not uncommon for customers to order 5-star posts, only to receive 1-star work. Per customer reviews, the company is not great about honoring commitments or refunds for low-quality work. For this reason, they might not be the best option when it comes to content writing platforms.
